Arp MCM Design and Upholstery is a resource for hand refurbished original furniture, unique consigned pieces, and access to a professional to meet all your reupholstery needs.

Based on Vashon Island, Washington and serving the greater Seattle area, I have an inventory of completed pieces and a collection of vintage items available for commission to meet your specific interior design needs.

I am available for consultation and can assist in locating a particular piece, determining origin and value of pieces, providing access to fabric and supplies, and provide design consultation by telephone or in your home.

Additionally, I am an experienced upholsterer and am eager to work on your favorite furniture pieces, especially if they are quality pieces of lasting value and interest. And I am able to help you with that process—weighing the pros and cons of reupholstery verses buying new.

My prices are reasonable and I will usually be able to quote you a firm price by email; please send a few pictures and some details about the project and I will respond in 1-2 days. I am also quick – once I take on a project I give it my full focus, and can usually return it to you in 1 to 2 weeks time!

I have experience working with toxin-free and hypoallergenic alternatives to traditional upholstery. I always work with organic cotton batting, Muslin and bottom cloth. In order to avoid foam off-gassing, we can use latex foam or bypass foam altogether and use horsehair fill, organic Jute and cotton casing. By stripping down a vintage chair to bare wood I can build it back with environmentally and health friendly materials.

Please see the examples of my commissioned work and original pieces available for purchase. I particularly love mid century modern furniture and am knowledgeable about style, fabric and design details for vintage pieces from that period.

I stock many fabric samples, as well as extensive yardage of fantastic fabrics and high quality supplies. Please visit me in my workshop and have a look for yourself!

I stumbled upon Alissa via Craigslist. She was coming up North to do some work and I serendipitously had a need to reupholster a chair I purchased at a small shop in town for $75. She provided the most exquisite fabric - modern and bold - which fit perfectly in my space. Her work is exceptional and her rates are reasonable. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her to my friends/family and also utilize her expertise again.”
